A great place to visit in Allentown for fans of Mediterranean cuisine, Lazeez Grill provides an excellent dining experience. The service is exceedingly courteous, and everyone here is knowledgable and kind. Lazeez's menu is full of classic dishes, all of which the kitchen executes to perfection. The shawarmas are especially good, but the hummus and tabbouleh are also standouts. The falafel is a great choice, too, uniquely seasoned and not the oily mess of a lot of other places. Everything is exceedingly fresh! Lazeez Grill is a labor of love for its friendly employees, and all of that care is clear in the high quality of its food and service. Come visit and experience it for yourself.

At Edge Restaurant, you’ll enjoy dining at the cusp of culinary extraordinaire. Service is supportive but not intrusive, you can relax, be casual, and set your own pace for a special evening. As delicious as they are lovely visually, the dishes reflect a chef who takes pride in his work and a kitchen that takes your gastronomic pleasure seriously. The menu blooms with fresh interpretations on Asian and French contributions. Exciting appetizers and small plates can almost distract you from the entrees themselves. Seared tuna or tuna tartare, duck confit spring rolls, foie gras and oysters are just a few examples. Entrees include Hawaiian butterfish, rack of lamb, slow-roasted pulled pork sandwich, duck and filet mignon.
Don’t doubt reviews urging you to save space for dessert. Valrhona chocolate cake, oatmeal panna cotta, toasted coconut molasses tiramisu, salted caramel chocolate tart, and house made sorbets and ice creams merely sample the list. Consider Edge for happy hours Monday through Friday, or girls' night out on Wednesdays.

Wert’s Cafe: The Burger Boss
February 14, 2012 by admin

The Lehigh Valley area has no shortage of burger places; classic American favorites are very well-represented by local restaurateurs. So to win awards for the best burgers in town—not once but over and over again—means that you have to be doing something right. Allentown’s Wert’s Café has over forty years of burger mastery under its belt, knocking out moist, perfectly-seared patties topped with a variety of fresh ingredients to a huge crowd of appreciative locals. No matter what you order, be sure to get onion strings on the side, as this local specialty—basically deconstructed onion rings sliced thinly and flash-fried—are insanely addictive. If you’re not in the mood for a burger, the other sandwiches on the menu are equally high-quality, especially the turkey club. You can tell that Wert’s really cares about their clientele, and it’s nice to see a neighborhood classic that doesn’t just coast on their reputation.

Grumpy’s BBQ Roadhouse: A Savory Feast
January 24, 2012 by admin
Of the many states that you associate with barbecue, Pennsylvania doesn’t come up that often. But there’s still quality ‘cue to be had. Case in point: Grumpy's. The restaurant started out cooking over a charcoal grill, but recently shifted to an entirely hickory-fueled pit, which has resulted in fantastic dividends. The menu starts with meat, but ranges across a wide selection of Southern and soul food dishes as well. Located in a stone tavern built sometime in the 1840s, the walls are covered with Harley memorabilia and other tchotchkes, perfectly preparing you for the fun and funky dining experience you’re about to have. Regulars rave about the fantastic gumbo and jambalaya, which packs a great New Orleans kick. The pulled pork sandwiches are also great—they're messy and deliciously tender. Grumpy’s also features live music, including a popular Thursday night jam session that draws some of the best musicians in the area.

Grille 3501: A Lehigh Valley Best Restaurant Pick
December 20, 2011 by admin
Repeatedly voted one of Lehigh Valley’s best restaurants, Grille 3501 brings New York fusion cuisine to a more down to earth environment. Self-described as “sophisticated yet unpretentious,” the menu combines French, Mediterranean, Asian, and modern American culinary approaches for a not-to-miss dining experience. Prices tend toward the upper range, but everything is made to perfection—even lunch sandwiches like a BLT get a luxurious lift, with applewood bacon, arugula, roasted tomato, and chipotle mayo on grilled flatbread. But Grille 3501 isn’t all just show—fresh ingredients, expertly paired wines, and attentive service all make this a unique establishment for fine dining close to home.

Gio Italian Grill: Inspired Woodfired Pizzas and More
November 15, 2011 by admin
If you’re looking for high-quality Italian in the Allentown area for everything from pizza to pasta, Gio Italian Grill will satisfy your needs. The eatery was opened in 2005 by the DeMaio family, a married couple, both of Sicilian descent, who were both involved in family restaurants. The couple worked to build a high-class Italian eatery from the ground up, from a massive woodfired oven to comfortable, classy but casual décor. Now let’s talk about that oven for a second—facing the dining room in old-world style, it produces some of the best pizzas in the area, with delicious crusts and great toppings—the ricotta and prosciutto pie comes especially recommended. Diners in the mood for pasta have a staggering selection to choose from, but some of the best fall squarely in the realm of “comfort food.” The spaghetti with Nonna’s meatballs is some of the best you’ll ever have. Desserts are also wonderful, with the Nutella dessert pizza— a pizza crust layered with Nutella and slices of seasonal fruit—both a playful and delicious finale.

The surf is always up at Cali Burrito, a California style burrito and taco joint. Not unlike Tex-Mex, West Coast-style Mexican cuisine offers a muted take on authentic flavors, playing up familiar favorites like guacamole and deep marinated meats with more of an emphasis on succulence than spice. Cali Burrito is further focused on offering healthy options to its diners, so look forward to added perks like organic coffee and locally produced tofu. Whether you opt for a few taco choices, a build your own burrito, or even one of the surprisingly well-balanced breakfast specials, Cali Burrito will leave you feeling full and blissed out—almost as if you were on a California beach.

Wild Rice: Asian Fusion Done Right in Allentown
September 20, 2011 by admin
Formerly known by the generic name, “China House III,” Allentown’s Wild Rice has undergone a facelift that brings its exterior in line with the high-quality Asian fusion served within. Finding restaurants that actually do justice to more than one Asian cuisine can be difficult—usually the additional dishes seem like a tacked-on afterthought. But locals rave that Wild Rice, by far the most popular Asian restaurant in town, covers its bases admirably well. Regulars recommend the Chinese dishes, including a delicious General Tso’s Chicken, fried to perfection and coated in that addictive, slightly spicy sauce. The sushi is good, if not quite up to big city standards, with reasonably fresh ingredients prepared and presented well. They also offer a variety of vegetarian options for people with dietary restrictions. Take a seat at the hibachi grill for an exciting experience of watching the chefs prepare a variety of meat right in front of your eyes.
